Music has been a part of Allen’s life for as long as he can remember. From singing and performing at a young age to discovering his calling as a songwriter, music has remained a constant thread throughout his life – and a powerful way to connect with others.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Allen is surrounded by the songwriting tradition that has inspired generations of artists.  But for him, songwriting has never been simply about entertainment.  It is about purpose.

Allen’s strong faith is at the heart of that purpose.  He believes the gifts we are given are meant to be used for something greater than ourselves, and he sees songwriting as one of the ways he can use his gifts to encourage, inspire, heal, and bring people together. He believes music has a unique ability to cross boundaries, connect hearts, and communicate messages that can reach people in ways ordinary words sometimes cannot.

That same philosophy extends beyond music. Allen is the founder and executive director of Thank You for Your Kindness (TY4YK.org), a nonprofit built around the belief that kindness can change lives. Whether through a song or an act of kindness, his goal is the same: to create something that leaves people better than he found them.

As a singer and songwriter, Allen knows he has the ability to perform his own work. But he also recognizes that his greatest calling may be in the writing itself. He believes a powerful song can sometimes reach its full potential when placed in the hands and voice of someone with the ability to carry its message further.

For Allen, being the person behind the song is not a consolation prize. It is part of the calling.

He is comfortable stepping out of the spotlight and giving others the opportunity to stand in it. His joy comes from crafting songs with powerful messages and watching those messages find their way into the world through voices that can reach millions.

He doesn’t need to be the one singing the song. He wants to be the one who wrote it.

That is the heart of A Twist of Rhyme.
